OCHO RIOS, St Ann — A hotel worker was yesterday morning murdered at her home in Top Milford in Ocho Rios, allegedly by her common-law husband.

The victim was identified as Sasha Edwards, 22, a massage therapist.

Edwards’ common-law husband Kevin Peterson, a labourer also of Top Milford reportedly turned himself in to the Ocho Rios police yesterday and was being interrogated.

According to the police, the couple was at home yesterday morning when a dispute developed, during which a knife was allegedly used to stab Edwards in the neck.

The incident reportedly occurred in full view of Edwards’ three-year-old daughter at the house she shared with Peterson.

Yesterday’s horrific incident shocked the entire staff at the Beaches Boscobel Resort in St Mary where Edwards had been employed in the Spa as a massage therapist for about three years.

General manager at Beaches Boscobel, Howard Spittle, said the entire team was shaken up by the news of Edwards’ tragic and untimely death.

“The news of Sasha’s untimely passing under such tragic circumstances has touched the entire Beaches Boscobel family. This is a very close-knit team and we are all trying to deal with this almost inconceivable tragedy,” Spittle said.

“We console one another while praying for the family whose grief must be insurmountable.”

Several of Edwards’ shaken co-workers described her as an outgoing and jovial individual and said she would be greatly missed.

“She was a jovial, fun-loving team player full of energy and life,” said Naddeshea Bailey.

“She was very straightforward and was very lively and loved by all of us and will be greatly missed,” said another co-worker, Geneve Edwards.

Meanwhile, commanding officer for the parish, Senior Superintendent Carlton Wilson, said he was concerned about the increase in domestic violence which has resulted in deaths.

SSP Wilson said the matter requires serious intervention from several agencies and he wants especially couples involved in disputes to seek assistance from the police.

“We have trained people who can help you in determining how to go about dealing with these issues without having to resort to taking lives,” SSP Wilson said.

Last Friday an enraged husband reportedly fatally stabbed his wife, 32-year-old Kayon Nevers-White, at their home in Salem, Runaway Bay in the parish.

The husband, who reportedly left a note indicating that he was going to end his life, has not been seen or heard from since.Wilson said people need to seek other avenues of dealing with disputes without resorting to violence.
