Circus Circle seek to close in on Sharpes Rebels
CIRCUS Circle have a glorious opportunity to close in on leaders Sharpes Rebels when the Men’s Outdoor Hockey Premier League resumes this weekend at the Mona facility.
The Rebels, leading with 16 points, will battle hard-running Jamaica Defence Force, while Circus Circle, in second place with 13 points, will take on improving Raiders United who are in fifth place with eight points of the six-team premier league competition.
Buoyed by a 2-1 win over Munro College Old Boys last week, Circus Circle are showing all-round depth after Richard Wisdom and Kemar Mitchell got on the scoresheet.
However, Gerald Richards, Aubyn Ferguson and Charles Burton, who share 10 goals between them, are still the main strike force for Circus Circle and will have to turn the screws on an increasingly confident Raiders tomorrow at 3:00 pm.
Also tomorrow at 5:00 pm, Marlon Rowe, Sheldon Brown and Reynard Leverage will try to spearhead the JDF, who are in third place with 11 points, to their fourth victory this season.
But Sharpes Rebels will go all out in not losing ground, with leading marksman Giovanni Gordon (six goals), supported by Kimani Airey (three goals), eager to make an example of the military men.
Before that, however, St Andrew Hockey Club tackle Tropics in the low-keyed Women’s Outdoor Premier League match at 3:00 pm today, while two hours later Munro College Old Boys (10 points) face cellar team Explorers (seven points) at 5:00 pm.
