Holy Family prevail over St Aloysius in penalty shoot-out
KINGSTON’S champions Holy Family secured their place in the quarter-finals with a 4-2 penalty shoot-out win over St Aloysius in the 2011 LIME/INSPORTS All-Island Primary Schools Football Championship at the Bell/Chung Stadium yesterday.
The Kingston champions had to work extremely hard for victory as they played to a goalless draw at full time and 1-1 draw at extra time before penalty kicks were used to decide the winner in the round-of-sixteen.
Both teams had several chances of scoring, but wasted their opportunities.
Holy Family, however, had the better of play, but lacked the finishing touches that could have given them the lead despite St Aloysius’ strong work in the defence that denied their opponents the opportunities as the first half ended scoreless.
In the second half, Holy Family came under pressure from St Aloysius who began looking dangerous with their attacks, but again shots could not find the target as Holy Family defended well.
The Kingston champions in the last two minutes should have clinched victory when Romaine Bowers raced away on the left flank, but his shot to goal went into the side netting.
After sixty minutes of action, extra time came into play with both teams building attacks as they searched for the go-ahead goal.
Holy Family’s Christopher Walker gave his team the lead in the 64th minute when he scored from a goal-mouth melee.
Three minutes later, the scores were even as St Aloysius produced numerous counter-attacks that saw the equaliser came through Jevaughn Jeminson’s 67th minute grounder.
