Wolmers’ students get summer internships
MORE than 80 students of Wolmer’s Boys School — among them Shyiem-Akiem Brown — will benefit from internships with local companies this summer.
Brown, the top-performing fourth-form art student, will do his internship with the Jamaica Observer’s editorial department for three weeks during which time he will mostly understudy renowned cartoonist Clovis Brown.
Among the other participating companies are the Appliance Traders Limited, the Wisynco Group, Sagicor, and the Gleaner Company.
The 2011 internships — announced at the school’s annual internship presentation ceremony, held at the Mico University College on Friday — form a part of an incentive programme at the school which sees students who perform well academically being given the opportunity to gain experience in the career field of their choice.
In addition to their academic performance, the school also takes account of students’ attendance and disciplinary records as well as their involvement in extra-curricular activities, in arriving at a decison as to which students to award internships.
