Westmoreland on show!
SAVANNA-LA-MAR, Westmoreland — THE parish of Westmoreland will be on show come Sunday, as the Westmoreland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (WCCI) stages its annual Westmoreland Expo at the Mannings School, Savanna-la-Mar, in the parish.
Commencing at 10:00 am, the event will feature an exciting exhibition of local businesses, a culinary competition, kiddie’s centre and wrap with an entertainment package headlined by Biggaton; Warrior King and 2010 Digicel Rising Star, Dalton Harris. Booth exhibitors will also vie for the first annual Victor Drum Best Booth Trophy; in honour of a parish stalwart and pioneer of the Westmoreland Expo.
“Westmoreland Expo 2011 involves the coming together of business operators, financiers, traders, development agencies, education and training personnel, the agricultural sector and tourism affiliates, all evolving within brand Westmoreland,” said Nigel Myrie, President of the Westmoreland Chamber of Commerce in a release.
He added that the Westmoreland showcase will also act as a homecoming for Westmorelites residing outside of the parish.
This year’s Expo, being hosted under the theme ‘Fostering Opportunities for Sustainable Development’, is geared toward sustaining an increase in productivity for the parish. The expo seeks to create an opportunity for persons to adopt the phenomenon of decentralised economic activity, as is followed by various organisations.
It is also intended to act as a stimulant for investment in agriculture and tourism, two of the main industries in Westmoreland.
“The Expo will provide a forum for existing as well as potential investors to connect with suppliers of the wide-range of goods and services also available throughout the parish,” said the organisers.
Among the exhibitors are Icon Importers; Sugar Divestment Enterprise; Agro-Grace; Scientific Research Centre; Computaz & Beyond; NEPA and Big M Hardware & Agricultural Supplies.
