Necessary Luxury – Nadine Sutherland

Singer, songwriter and producer

I am not into gadgets, but my BB has changed that. It keeps me connected to people from different aspects of my life. It helps me to remember meetings and studio sessions, even birthdays. It is so accessible that when I have a song inspiration now, I record it on my BlackBerry. My fellow classmates showed me last semester how to use it to record notes when I am researching a book for a project. It really has become a major part of my day.

Then there’s my brown leather bag that goes almost everywhere with me… I got it 15 years ago as a gift. It has more character now with the passing years, as the wear and tear of travelling with me is showing. I pack it each morning with things for the gym, for school, for any recording sessions I might have. If you see me often enough, you’ll notice my brown leather bag.

I don’t wear a lot of make-up on a regular day, but my waterproof mascara is a must. I sweat a lot at the gym, and it stays on… my lip stain was introduced to me several years ago by a make-up artist and I have not looked back. It is excellent when you have an active lifestyle and running from one place to another.

I’ve been using Shea or cocoa butter on my skin for many years. I travel with either on a daily basis to keep my hands moist. I use Shea butter in my hair too; it’s a great softener.

Oh yes, my Spartan swipe card -I like working out not only for the aesthetic benefits but because it hones discipline and structure. The gym culture that Spartan promotes has been beneficial to me in my progress, but the friends that I have made, make it an even more enjoyable part of my day.

Finally there’s Coco Chanel Mademoiselle.

This has been my signature scent for several years. It’s cosmopolitan but earthy at the same time. It’s sexy but not overpowering, subtle but oh so effective. I feel it was specifically created with me in mind.
