PanCaribbean All Ja Junior tennis serves off
THE sixth PanCaribbeanBank All-Jamaica Junior Tennis Champion-ships serves off today with 32 matches at the Eric Bell Centre in Kingston.
Daniel Harris, top seed in both the Boys 16 and Boys 18, will hog the limelight, but he will not be in action until tomorrow. Shantal Blackwood, No 1 seed in the Girls 18 and Michaelann Denton, ranked No 1 in the Girls 16, will put on show the best tennis Jamaica’s young players have to offer.
However, over 100 players will take the court, some in more than one category. Play will also take place in the Girls 12, Girls 14, Boys 10, and Boys 12 categories.
PanCaribbeanBank has funded the tournament to the tune of $1.6 million as contribution to the “development of young persons” from a sport that is “known for promoting self-discipline, self-motivation and excellence…” according to the managing director, Philip Armstrong.
The Boys 18 players will get the action under way at 8:30 with Dominic Powell taking on Richard Blake, No 8 Andrew Bicknell, facing Daniel Giles, Jovaughn Mullings meeting Jared Morgan, and William Berry versus Dominic Wilson.
Boys 18 No 2 Sheldon McIntosh will also take the court against Chevaughn Crawford, while Boys 18 No 3 Oshaine Trail will face Kareem Marshall.
Also playing today are Boys 16 eighth seed Andrew Bicknell who will take on David Shoucair and Boys 16 seventh seed Roger Lyn, who will confront Kareem Marshall, this match being scheduled for 12:30 pm.
