Fogo United seek place in St James Senior finals League today
MONTEGO BAY, St James – LITTLE Miami’s opponents in the finals of the St James Football Association’s Claro Senior League will be known this afternoon, when Fogo United takes a one goal lead into the return leg semi-finals against Mt Villa at the UDC field.
Little Miami booked their place in the finals on Monday after a 4-0 thumping of Montego Bay Boys’ Club in their return leg semi-finals after a 0-0 draw in the first leg last week.
Fogo United had won their first leg semi-finals 2-1 last week and will be favourites going into today’s game and book their place in the July 12 and 17th finals.
The Flankers-based club had topped the point’s tables after the regular season and is expected to get the better of Mt Villa, the fourth place finisher today.
In the first leg, Alme McFarlane scored in the 45th minute goal for Fogo United to cancel out Damion James’ 19th minute lead for Granville City.
Duwaine Miller then scored the winner in the 78th minute as Fogo who had topped the points tables after the first two rounds grabbed the advantage going into today’s return leg.
On Monday, Dwayne Hemmings gave Little Miami a half-time lead before Alwayne Simmonds, a defender and Jermaine Bowen scored in the second half.
Hemmings scored in the 40th minute to break the deadlock and give Little Miami the lead after Boys’ Club wasted two good scoring chances earlier.
Simmonds doubled the lead in the 58th minute after rounding a defender and after just keeping his balance, shot past the Boys’ Club goalkeeper at the near right post into the goal.
Boys’ Club missed a good chance to pull a goal back soon after but Kalusha Coates who had the Little Miami goalkeeper at his mercy, shot the ball high over the bar from just outside the 18-yards-area.
Little Miami made Boys’ Club pay for their mistakes as in the 65th minute a defender errantly steered a low cross from the left side into his own net to kill off the competition.
Bowen then added a fourth goal in the 80th minute when he poked in a ball from just inside the six-yard area into the goal.
