Annastacia Scott home after being given clean bill of health
MIRAMAR, Florida — Jamaica’s quarter-miler Annastacia Scott, who was rushed to the hospital after Sunday’s completion of the Pan-American Junior Track and Field Championships at the Ansin Sports Complex in Miramar, Florida returned home with her teammates on Monday.
Scott was treated and discharged on Sunday night after being taken to a nearby medical facility in an ambulance subsequent to her collapse following the running of the first leg of the 4x400m relays earlier in the afternoon.
Head coach Michael Carr told the Observer on Monday that she was given a clean bill of health after the initial scare.
She slowed up noticeably on the first leg of the girls 4x400m relay handing over to Daniel Dowie in fourth place, effectively killing the team’s chance of winning a medal, then collapsed on the track and had to be taken off by medical personnel.
Later Scott was seen being placed in an ambulance and a team official told the Observer she was complaining of severe abdominal pains and was being taken to an area hospital for a complete check up.
Scott’s injury was the last of a string of mishaps that plagued the Jamaican team at the three-day championships.
Ashawni Mitchell did not take part in the championships, while 400m hurdler Javarn Gallimore collapsed in the final and was withdrawn from the 4x400m team.
On the female side, a strained quad muscle suffered while winning the 400m on the first day forced Chris-Ann Gordon off the girls’ 4x400m team; Kellion Knibb dropped out of the shot put with ligament problems in his elbow, heptathlon silver medallist Jeneive Russell suffered back spasms but finished the event, while a sprained ankle kept long jump finalist Rochelle Farquharson out of the triple jump.
