Crystal United in repeat match-up against 12 Stars
MONTEGO BAY, St James – DEFENDING champions Crystal United and 12 Stars will meet in Sunday’s end-of-round play-offs in the St James Netball Association’s Hunger Buster/Impact Auto Senior League, at the Montego Bay Boys Club, starting at 4:30 pm.
This will be a repeat of the final season when Crystal beat 12-Stars. They will start favourites to win on Sunday, after completing a perfect first round with four wins, after beating Angels B 56-25 on Saturday.
Despite losing by a point, 32-33 to Angels A on Sunday, 12-Stars edged them on goal difference for the top spot in Zone B, after they both finished with nine points with three wins from four games played.
12 Stars has a goal difference of 52 to 11 for Angels A.
After going behind in the third quarter, Angels stormed back in the fourth quarter, outscoring 12-Stars 12-5, thanks to a 30-goal performance from Nicole Fletcher.
The teams were close for the first two quarters with a point separating them, Angels led 8-7, after the first quarter, before 12-Star, who were led by Jodian McPherson’s 20 goals, edged ahead 17-16 at half-time.
Twelve-Stars then surged ahead 27-21 with a big third quarter but Angels responded with their best quarter in the fourth to earn a close win.
Also on Sunday, Starlight Juniors hammered Pacers Juvenile 48-30 for their first win of the season thanks to 34 goals from Kacian Henry and 14 from Noreen Wilson while Danielle Ellis scored 30 goals for the losers.
A day earlier Crystal trounced Angels B by 31 goals, dominating on both ends of the court as Rita Spence scored 28 goals and Amalia Stewart 24, while Suzette Virgo with three goals and Gina Haughton with one also contributed.
Karen Hamilton and Shagayle Bennett both scored 12 goals for Angels B.
On Monday, Sting registered their first win of the season with a four goals win 38-34 over Pacers A at the Montego Bay Boys Club.
The Shakespeare sisters Stacy and Wendy scored 20 and 18 goals respectively for the winners, while Dorita Daley scored 19 goals to lead Pacers A.
Meanwhile last Wednesday, Pacers Juvenile and Blazers played out a 33-all tie, as Blazers rallied in the final quarter to earn a share of the points.
Pacers led for the first three quarters 7-5, 17-13 and 24-20 but could not contain the rampaging Blazers in the final period of play.
Ellis led Pacers Juvenile with 26 goals, Georgia Ellis had six and Jodian Grant one, while Monique Bingham scored 22 goals to lead Blazers, Nickeisha Ferron scored seven goals, while Janita Brown scored four goals.
