We need a programme like this
Dear Editor,
On CNN every Sunday there is a programme called Reliable Sources hosted by media critic, Howard Kurtz. In its profile on the show the CNN website states, “Now more than ever, the press is a part of every story it covers. And CNN’s Reliable Sources is one of television’s only regular programmes to examine how journalists do their jobs and how the media affect the stories they cover.” It also points out that “…each week he (Howard Kurtz – the host) questions print reporters, television correspondents and internet bloggers about how the press is covering the major stories of the week.”
I believe that a show similar to Reliable Sources is needed here. G2K and its President Delano Seiveright made a brave and serious critique of some aspects of media land. With the fast-paced growth of media over the last 20 years and advancements in cyberspace over the last 10 years, we now more than ever need some news programmes that critique the basis and reporting of the news itself.
