Hair, Nails and Cocktails

Hair, Nails and Cocktails

Under the Dryer along with J Wray & Nephew hasupped the style ante for our fab readers with the made-for-summer Wray and Nephew Poinsettia and Absolut Kingston 8 cocktails. Roxanne’s beauty salon was the first to receive this in-store bar service. Here’s what transpired…

A Refresher Course

Judith Green

A long-time client of Roxanne’s, Judith is quite accustomed to popping in for a mid-week refresher to keep her hair looking smart. Of course, Roxanne is always happy to oblige…

The Routine:

La-Brasiliana Keratin and Collagen shampoo is used to cleanse her hair followed by the no-rinse conditioner and leave-in detangler from the same line. After working the latter through the strands and massaging her scalp in-between, a UV protection styling aid is worked through. Roxanne then applies a dollop of define-and-shine serum and styles her hair in feathery waves, using a blow dryer and round brush to complete the look.

Judith’s Take:

“This is my transition look because I’m growing my hair out, but I love the fact that Roxanne keeps my hair looking great even in its in-between state. That’s why I’ve been coming here for such a long time, because she cares. Most of all, I enjoy the welcoming environment and the competent staff. Usually Roxanne or Gillian does my hair, and Tania does my nails simultaneously. Everybody works with me here, so it’s perfect.”

Cut Above The Rest

Lisa McMaster-Phipps

As an entrepreneur and chicster, Lisa always ensures that her hair is on point, and luckily her trusty hairstylist of “about four years”, Roxanne Shields, knows just what works for her. “Roxanne is very good. She keeps up to date with what’s hot in hairstyling and is great with haircare. I also love that she enjoys her job and is always smiling,” she tells our team ahead of a spin in the styling chair.

The Routine:

Redken shampoo and conditioner is used to shampoo her hair, after which a dollop of Smooth ‘N’ Shine polishing shining mousse is worked through for fuller volume. Roux treatment and shine leave-in conditioner is then liberally applied to her hair, which her stylist Gillian then wraps before putting her under the dryer.

After hair is dry…

Chi serum is worked through her tresses for an added boost ahead of blow-drying. Roxanne now takes over and styles with a ceramic flat iron. She mists Redken workforce 09 finishing spray to complete the look.

Lisa’s Take:

“This look is perfect. This is why only Roxanne cuts my hair. She’s the ultimate fixer-upper. All I have to do is sit in the chair and I’m good. Plus, the service at her salon is excellent, even when she’s not around, and I really appreciate that.”

Touchable Curls

Marsha-Gae Morgan

Marsha-Gae tells our team that she’s been visiting her cousin Roxanne’s salon “since its inception”, and can’t get enough of their magical touch when it comes to her hair. “I love these guys, the staff is very able and the environment is very relaxed. I come here once weekly to shampoo and set as you’re seeing today,” she shares.

The Routine:

Her stylist Nadine whisks her away for a quick Redken shampoo job, then follows up with Jane Carter Nourish & Shine leave-in serum. Her hair is then blow-dried and styled with a flat iron for bouncy, touchable curls.

Marsha-Gae’s Take:

“I love it! I wear this look on special occasions as it always makes me look beautiful, and the stylists here know just how to make it work.”

Hair To Stay

N’Gina Thompson

A friend recommended Roxanne’s to N’Gina a year ago, and now she’s there religiously each week. She likes the fact that her stylist Nadine keeps her hair looking fab, and tells us that she nursed it back to good health. “Nadine is friendly, she listens to me and she knows exactly what I want. I also like to come here because in addition to the great haircare, Roxanne’s is very quiet; it’s a personal experience because everyone knows you,” she explains as she gets her hair shampooed. “Plus, after the way Nadine got my hair through the short stages, I definitely have no plans to go elsewhere.”

The Routine:

Nadine shampoos N’Gina’s hair and generously spritzes it with Roux treatment and shine leave-in conditioner ahead of roller-setting. She also applies a little Chi serum at the ends which, she explains, helps to keep the curls in place. When her hair is dry, Nadine blow-dries the roots and styles it. Redken workforce 09 finishing spray is then misted onto her hair for added shine.

N’Gina’s Take:

“I’m still in transition now, but I love my hair as it’s very healthy. When I first came here, my hair was really short and now, look at it… it’s lovely! Nadine really cares about my hair, and will ensure that it continues to grow healthy.”

A Quick Fix

Natalie Debellis

Four-and-a half years ago Natalie discovered Roxanne’s and has never looked back. “I come here often, to get my hair and nails done. I love it here. I have the greatest respect for Roxanne’s because I usually don’t allow anyone to do much of anything to my hair. But I have literally developed so much confidence in Roxanne that I allow her to do whatever she wants.” She shampooed her hair at home, but decided to pop into the salon and have it styled, just because…

The Routine:

“Natalie’s hair is in excellent condition and she likes that there’s a lot of movement,” shared her stylist Gillian. “So what I’ll do is work some Chi serum through her damp hair ahead of blow-drying and styling it”.

Natalie’s Take:

“I’m in love with this look. Roxanne convinced me to try the haircut and I’ve stuck with it ever since because I know she cares about my hair. It shows because I’ve always wanted to go blonde, but she refuses to do it because it will cause more damage — my hair tends to fall out a lot. I respect that.”

Blonde Radiance

Sabrina Russell

Italian/Jamaican client Sabrina was impatient to share her thoughts about the service at Roxanne’s: “Let me say I’ve finally found somewhere to go and get my hair done. I’ve been a customer for over a year, and I love it. I find everything very professional, very nice. It’s a pleasure to come,” she shares, while Roxanne highlights her tresses and Alicia polishes her nails.

The Routine:

“Sabrina has in the Keratin treatment,” Roxanne shares, “so we’re using La-Brasiliana products to maintain her hair in-between applications.” The hair dye is mixed — a hair-bleaching potion infused with Roxanne’s own ‘secret formula’ and brushed on to Sabrina’s hair. The hair is then wrapped with sheets of foil. Once the process is complete, her hair is shampooed with La-Brasiliana keratin and collagen shampoo and no-rinse conditioner. Roxanne then follows up with a leave-in detangler, a UV protection styling aid, and define-and-shine serum from the same brand. Sabrina’s hair is then dried using the ‘roll-blow’ method, and styled to complete the look.

Sabrina’s Take:

“I love this look. The highlights are very nice. Roxanne never disappoints, so for me her salon was a really great find. I no longer have to wait until my trip to Italy — That’s how good she is.”

Keratin Cute

Kerry-Ann Clarke

Kerry-Ann tried the Keratin Protein Treatment and has been very pleased with the results. She stops by Roxanne’s regularly so her hairstylist Nadine can ‘hook her up’ with her keratin maintenance treatments, and, of course, a good hairstyle. She gets her nails done too, and the best news is, everything is completed in under two hours.

The Routine:

“I’m using the La-Brasiliana Keratin and Collagen shampoo and no-rinse conditioner to cleanse Kerry-Ann’s hair, then I’ll apply the leave-in detangler and UV protection styling aid from the same line ahead of blow-drying. Once this is done I’ll work in some define-and-shine serum and style her hair with a flat iron for a slightly different twist on her regular look,” Nadine explains as we watch her adept hands at work.

Kerry-Ann’s Take:

“I love it. Isn’t it fabulous? It’s a new look for me, but I didn’t mind trying it because I trust Roxy 100 per cent, and now I’m wearing Kim Kardashian’s hairdo,” she says, laughing. “I’ve been a customer here since she’s been open, because of the excellent service, friendly staff, and they always keep their appointments. I also love that I can do my hair and nails simultaneously. That saves me a lot of time.”

Perfect Styling

Pauline Barrow

The salon is a haven for many ladies, and Pauline Barrow had no qualms sharing these sentiments with our team when she popped in for a quick shampoo and style. Speaking to our Under the Dryer team she explained, “I’ve been a client for a long time and I really enjoy coming here. I’ve been at Roxanne’s every week for over four years and I love the salon, the ladies, and the environment.”

The Routine:

Within minutes her stylist Gillian proceeds to shampoo her hair with TRESemmé products, after which she applies Roux treatment and shine leave-in conditioner ahead of roller-setting. She then places her under the dryer for 35 minutes. A dollop of Chi serum is added ahead of styling while misting with Redken workforce 09 completes the job.

Pauline’s Take:

“I usually feel great after I come here to have my hair done, and I’m always happy because it lasts for a long time. Plus, I always enjoy my experience.”

First-Rate Styling

Billie-Jean Constantine

For Billie-Jean the service at Roxanne’s is second to none, and for the past two years she’s been visiting once or twice a week to have her hair shampooed and trimmed. She likes the fact that the staff “know about haircare, know what they are about, and give advice” as that “sets them apart” in her book. Billie-Jean is in today for a routine treatment.

The Routine:

La-Brasiliana Keratin and Collagen shampoo and no-rinse conditioner are used to cleanse her keratin-treated strands, followed by a leave-in detangler, UV protection styling aid, and define-and-shine serum, ahead of roller-setting her hair and placing her under the dryer.

Post dryer, Billie-Jean’s hair is styled with a blow dryer and round brush.

Billie-Jean’s Take:

“I love my hair! I love how it looks, and it feels great. I get the same results no matter which member of staff does my hair too, so I work with anybody that’s free. Plus, the nail services are equally good, and the cocktail I had today made it even better. I really enjoyed it.”

Silky Smooth

Adriana Mair

Adriana is always on the go, so she loves the fact that “appointments are kept at Roxanne’s” allowing her to pop in, get her hair done and leave quickly. This is what has kept her a devotee for the past two years. “The service is key, and Roxanne’s is very consistent, professional, and sterile. They’re great with styling too, and it lasts, which is always a plus,” she shares. That said, it’s time for her maintenance shampoo.

The Routine:

Gillian first shampoos her hair with La-Brasiliana Keratin and Collagen shampoo and no-rinse conditioner, then works the leave-in detangler, UV protection styling aid, and Chi serum into her tresses. A trim follows ahead of styling which is done with a blow dryer and a round brush. A little more Chi serum is worked through her hair to complete the look.

Adriana’s Take:

“This is very nice. I haven’t had my hair trimmed in seven months so it feels fresh. (smiles). I like it.”

Colour Me Pretty

Susanna Valli

“Roxanne’s is perfect, I love the service. I’ve been coming here once a month for over a year now and it’s very good,” Susanna tells us ahead of hopping into Roxanne’s styling chair for a colour job — “to switch up her look a little”. Roxanne happily obliges…

The Routine:

Evolution semi-permanent hair colour in deep burgundy 35-45 is brushed onto her hair strands, and she’s placed under the dryer to allow it to sit. When this is finished, her hair is shampooed with TRESemmé products, then Roux treatment and shine leave-in conditioner, and a dollop each of Chi serum, and Smooth ‘N’ Shine polishing mousse are worked through her hair. This allows for fuller volume, Roxanne explains. Susanna’s hair is then blow-dried and styled with a round brush, after which Redken workforce 09 finishing mist is spritzed onto it for sheen and light hold.

Susanna’s Take:

“I’m very happy with this new look. Nobody else can do my hair like Roxanne. I love it!”
