Melba Moore For Studio 38
America R&B act Melba Moore is set to appear in concert on August 19 at Studio 38, New Kingston.
The show forms part of Pulse’s entertainment for Caribbean Model Search Weekend. The entertainment package continues on August 20 with female DJ Tifa and the major presentation show of CMS contestants.
Moore, the singer of such hits as Lean On Me, This Is It, I’m Coming At You, A Little Bit More and the worldwide monster You Stepped Into My Life, will be the first international R&B act to perform at Studio 38 in the year and a half since the popular Kingston night spot opened its doors.
Studio 38 has boasted many superstar concerts since opening in November 2009, but never an international R&B act. Top stars who have performed at the venue include Tarrus Riley, Mavado, Beres Hammond, Tanya Stephens, Laza Morgan, John Holt, Denroy Morgan, Gregory Isaacs (in his last Jamaican concert), Lady Saw, Assassin, Ken Booth, Ernie Smith, U-Roy, Freddie McGregor, George Nooks, Tami and Tessanne Chin and several others.
A native New Yorker, the legendary American singer and actress, Melba Moore is the daughter of saxophonist Teddy Hill and R&B singer Bonnie Davis. Melba began her performing career in 1967 as Dionne in the original cast of the musical Hair along with Ronnie Dyson and Diane Keaton. Moore won a Tony Award for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical for her role in Purlie.
Meanwhile Pulse’s Caribbean Model Search kicked off on Friday night with a swimsuit parade of some of this year’s hopefuls.
Contestants have been divided into petite, full-figured, male models and fashion models. According to Pulse’s Romae Gordon, as the competition progresses, there will be a number of new faces as the agency is still accepting entrants in this year’s competition. She is however pleased with the crop thus far and looks to a great model search.
Pulse is looking to find new faces to add to its roster of top models who, having come through the ranks of the contests go on to work the major runways and fashion magazines of the world.
