12-Star, Angels A meet in St James netball
MONTEGO BAY, St James — The lead in Zone B of the St James Netball Association’s Hunger Buster/Impact Auto Senior League will be at stake today when 12 Star and Angels A clash at the Montego Bay Boys Club in the second game of a double header set for 5:00 pm.
Twelve Star, who were beaten in the end-of-round final by defending champions Crystal United, lead with 10 points after being held to a 25-all tie by last-placed Starlight A in their first game of the return round, one point ahead of Angels A.
Angels A had won their first meeting by a single goal, 33-32, and will be hoping 12-Stars’ poor form continue today as they seek to take over the lead.
In the first game, which is set to start at 3:30 pm, Blazers will seek to close the gap between themselves and leaders Crystal when they face Angels B in a Zone A game.
Crystal lead with 15 points after winning all five games played so far, while Blazers are in second place on 10 points, as pacers Juveniles are well behind in third place on four points.
Two more games will be played on Monday, Starlight A and Sting will meet in the 3:30 pm game followed by Starlight Juniors and Blazers.
Meanwhile, defending champions Crystal United continued to steamroll the competition in Zone A after a 47-16 drubbing of Starlight Juniors at the Montego Bay Boys Club on Sunday to start the return round.
Rita Spence scored 23 goals for Crystal, while Blazers beat Pacers Juveniles 43-28 in the second game of the double header.
Crystal were all over Starlight from the start, racing to an 11-3 lead after the first quarter and were up by double digits, 17-4, at half-time.
Amalia Stewart and Gina Haughton both scored seven goals, Sharon Woodstock scored six, while Carlalee Tinglin scored four goals for the winners, who had won the first-round game 50-29.
Tara Heaven scored 12 goals from 33 attempts for Starlight Juniors, while Noreen Wilson added four goals.
After drawing 33-all in the first round, Blazers came from behind to beat Pacers Juveniles by 15 goals, 43-28, thanks to 36 goals from Shadian Hemmings.
Pacers won the first quarter 8-5, but Blazers edged in front at half-time 19-18, then dominated the second half 25-10 to run out easy winners.
Nickesha Ferron with five goals and Monique Bingham with three also scored for Blazers, while Georgia Reid led Pacers with 18 goals with Shanice Rhodes scoring seven and Danielle Ellis, three.
Meanwhile, last week Wednesday, beaten end-of-round finalists 12-Star were held 25-all by last-placed Starlight in a Zone B game, also played at Boys Club.
The teams were tied at the end of each quarter, scoring 7, 6, 5 and seven goals each.
Shanice Howe scored 18 goals to lead Starlight, while Crystalee Carter led 12-Star with 16 goals.
