Appleton Masters Golf tourney on this weekend
CAYMANAS Golf and Country Club will this weekend be hosting one of the club’s premiere golfing events, The Appleton Masters.
The event, originally scheduled for June 4 and 5, had to be rescheduled to this weekend due to heavy rainfall on the original date.
The Appleton Masters is a 36-hole (two rounds over two days) medal tournament (JGA qualifier), that has historically attracted the best golfers in the country, vying for prizes in four categories: Men’s, Ladies, Seniors and Superseniors. Winners in each division are awarded trophies and other prizes based on the “best net” and “best gross” performance over the two days.
Low handicap (0 – 10) golfers will be playing from the “Champion tees” (blue tee) and all other participants will be playing from the Club tees (white tees), except for the ladies who will be playing from the red tees (the ladies club tee).
Play in this event will commence at 7:30 am today on an all-day basis (tee times throughout the day), and tomorrow the start will be an 8:30 am “shotgun” (all players off at the same time).
The prize-giving award ceremony follows the completion of tomorrow’s play, and will take place at a luncheon at the Club starting at approximately 1:30 pm, complete with a complimentary Appleton Bar.
This year’s event will have a unique feature, in that the scores in the event will be used to select the Caymanas Club Champions (applicable to Caymanas members only) in the following categories:
— Men’s Champion & Ladies Champion; Lowest gross scores in the event and; Net Champions in the same categories as the Masters, that is, Men’s, Ladies, Seniors and Superseniors.
The Men’s Overall Champion (low gross) would have to have competed from the Champion tee (the blue tee), and the Ladies Champion (also low gross) will have competed from the ladies tee (red). The “Net” Champions will be selected from scores posted over the 36 holes from all tees.
The tournament dates will also accommodate golfers for single day play first gross and first net (male or female), principally for those golfers unable to compete for two days, but for which all golfers participating on the day will be eligible.
A separate junior tournament will also take place during the two days, with prizes for both gross and net scores.
Entry Fees are as follows: Both days — $4,500; Saturday only $3,000; Sunday only $3,500 (includes lunch); Juniors 50 per cent of the above fees.
