Daley inks two-year deal with Preston

PRESTON, England (CMC) — Jamaican winger Keammar Daley has signed a two-year deal with English League One side Preston North End, on a frantic final day in the transfer market Wednesday.

The 23-year-old, who previously played for Jamaican top-flight outfit Tivoli Gardens, made the move after impressing in recent trial matches for the north-west England club.

Preston have secured international clearance for the player but still have to await a work permit before Daley can turn out for the Lilywhites.

“It has taken a while for the move to happen but I am thankful it has,” Daley said on the club’s website.

“The main thing I remember from the last time I was here were the fans — they are fantastic and will play a big part in the club going forward.

“If the team is feeling down, they are the ones to bring us back up. It will always be a joy for the players to play in front of the Preston fans. They are an inspiration.”

Daley shone in two pre-season friendlies in July, when Preston whipped Morcambe 3-0 and lost 3-1 to Premiership side Wigan Athletic.

Based on those performances, the club’s management made every effort to secure the player and both clubs managed to finally reach an agreement on the deal late Wednesday as the transfer deadline marched to a close.

“I enjoyed playing in the two friendly games even though I started the game against Wigan on the bench,” Daley said.

“We showed character against a Premier League team and we came back to play well for the rest of the game.

“I am living my dream right now to be in England and playing for Preston. Hopefully, I am going to start playing soon.”

Manager Phil Brown said Preston were happy to have lured the impressive Reggae Boy to Deepdale.

“I’m delighted to have secured the services of Keammar Daley and I’m looking forward to working with a very impressive winger,” Brown said.

“Keammar is a very exciting prospect which he showed in a couple of pre-season games against Morecambe and Wigan.

“Against Wigan he displayed an impressive turn of foot and proved he has the ability to dribble past top class players.”

He added: “We have had to sit patiently and wait for everything to fall into place and luckily, on deadline day, it has come through.

“Unfortunately, Keammar has picked up a little niggle in his pre-season training which will keep him out for 10 to 14 days but it will take time anyway to secure a VISA.”

Daley, who has 11 internationals for the Reggae Boys, will wear the number 19 shirt at the club.
