Club Stars, Tomorrow’s People lift St James FA/Sandals tilles
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Club Stars and Tomorrow’s People avenged earlier defeats to lift the St James Football Association’s Sandals Under 17 and Under 20 titles as the competition came to a close at Jarrett Park on Sunday.
The finals were played along with the Hanover FA competitions that saw Haughton Meadows and Jericho Rangers lift their Under 17 and Under 20 titles respectively.
After losing 2-0 to a rampant Paradise in a regular season game last week, Tomorrow’s People turned the tables with a 4-0 spanking with Owen Hacker scoring twice.
Paradise played 75 minutes with 10 men after the influential Romario Tummings was given a straight red card by referee Donat McKenly in the 15th minute.
The one man advantage gave Tomorrow’s People the edge as they took over the game, forcing Paradise back in their own half for long periods.
Ramone Stewart gave the Bickersteth based Tomorrow’s People the lead in the 30th minute when his shot from the right flank curled into the top left hand corner of the goal.
Odane Gordon powered home from close range in the 48th minute before Hacker put the game out of reach with two goals in a five minute span mid way the second half.
On both occasions, in the 60th and 65th minutes, Hacker beat the Paradise goalkeeper from close range.
In the Under 17 finals, Club Stars avenged a 1-2 loss to Granville to retain their title with a come from behind 2-1 win with two goals from Nicoy Myers.
Shawn Gayle had given Granville the lead in the 17th minute before Myers leveled the scores in the 33rd minute then scored the winner in the 65th minute.
Haughton Meadows scored the biggest win on the day with a 7-1 thrashing of Rangers FC in the Hanover Under 17 finals with three players scoring two goals each.
Lexan Samuels in the 21st and 32nd minutes, Leighton Galloway in the 38th and 41st and Johnney Miller in the 43rd and 67th minutes scored for the winners, while Junior Wilson scored the other in the 69th minute as Suwayne Stewart scored Rangers’ only goal.
In the Under 20 game, Michael Clarke’s 32nd minute goal was enough for Jericho Rangers to beat Bamboo 1-0.
