Saturday Hustle September 10
As we conclude our decade of summer hits, we bring you the hottest songs of summer 2010…
Say Ahh
Trey Songz
Described as the heir to R&B royalty Usher, Trey Songz brought his ‘A’ game last summer with the hit song Say Ahh. The track became Songz’ biggest hit, reaching number nine on the US Billboard Hot 100, his first top 10 hit. It also reached number three on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, and peaked at 16 on the Pop Songs chart. Say Aah became Songz first tune to chart internationally, when it reached number 43 in Canada.
Alejandro
Lady Gaga
Gaga has yet to release a track that has not struck gold. Alejandro reached number five on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, becoming Gaga’s seventh consecutive top 10 hit in the United States. The song has sold over 2.101 million paid digital downloads in the United States to date, according to Nielsen Soundscan, making Gaga the only artiste in digital history to amass seven consecutive 2-million sellers as a lead act.
Break Your Heart
Taio Cruz featuring Ludacris
Originally penned for Cheryl Cole, English singer/songwriter Taio Cruz delivers this track perfectly. The club-banging track peaked at number one in Canada, Switzerland, the UK, and the United States, and also within the top 10 of many other countries.
OMG
Usher featuring Will.I.Am
After Usher’s lackluster Here I Stand album, the artiste came back to claim his R&B title with Raymond v. Raymond. Released as the fourth single from the album, OMG topped the charts in Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States. The track became his ninth number one hit in the United States, making him the first artiste in 2010 to collect number one singles in three consecutive decades.
Airplanes
BOB featuring Hayley Williams of Paramore
For anyone who has ever wanted, or needed, a wish right now – Airplanes captures that essence brilliantly. Paramore lead singer Hayley Williams’ contribution to BOB’s 2010 summer hit is its chorus and as sung by this most unlikely partner, Airplanes is a great track. The song climbed the chart and peaked at number two. By December 2010 Airplanes sold over four million digital downloads.
California Gurls
Katy Perry
Katy Perry sought to answer Jay-Z and Alicia Keys’ Empire State of Mind with a west-coast tribute – her California Gurls is that track. From her picture of life on the beach and those scorching rays to “daisy dukes with bikinis on top,” Perry has captured summer in a song as no other in 2010. It debuted at number two on the Billboard Hot 100, making it Perry’s highest debut and eventually shot to number one, becoming Perry’s second number one song.
