Education in crisis
Dear Editor,
When educators are no longer able to interpret an educational analysis from a pedagogic perspective it is time for the Ministry of Education to rethink its modus operandi. When school administrators can only view failure through academic lenses, education is really in crisis.
I have been out of the system for more than seven years virtually pushed out before retirement simply because the establishment aided and abetted undermining of the definition of education. “Fit to live and to live with” has come to mean athletic prowess, regardless. Some honours graduates are yet to successfully complete their remedial course in basic English.
While I hold no brief for any politician, I feel sorry for the present minister of education. How come? Because apart from his communication style, he is perhaps just what the doctor ordered; values and attitudes in the application mode. What? You do not have to agree. I am an educator, not a dramatiser.
