J’can Bridgmohan opens season with double
FRANKLIN, Kentucky (CMC) — Shaun Bridgmohan was the most successful jockey with a double, when the fall season of racing opened on Saturday at Kentucky Downs with a seven-race card.
The Jamaican jockey just finished the summer season of racing at the Saratoga Racecourse in the state of New York, where he logged a mere four wins from 71 mounts.
Bridgmohan opened the day’s racing with a 3 1/2-length victory aboard the 7-1 chance Froggyville in the US$18,000 first race, travelling over 1,400 metres on the turf.
He settled Froggyville, attended the pace along the inside before working the four-year-old bay gelding to the outside leaving the turn, wearing down the leaders, and edging clear late for a time of one minute, 26.52 seconds.
Bridgmohan added a one-length victory on the 6-5 favourite Ready to Unleash in the US$25,000 fourth race over 1,200m.
He tracked the pace three-wide on Ready to Unleash, forged command inside the quarter pole, shook clear, and maintained a safe advantage on the two-year-old, bay filly to clock one minute, 12.55 secs.
