Never accept substandard values
Dear Editor,
I usually don’t spend the time to read through the opinions in their entirety. But Barbara Gloudon’s column of September 9, “Joke to you is death to me” piqued my interest.
I’m a police constable, and it’s the same expression when a motorist is pulled over for a traffic violation. Or when someone is arrested for ganja smoking, or being in possession of an offensive weapon, namely: “Mek unnuh nuh guh look fi real criminal?”
No one appreciates the fact that it is the perceived ability of getting away with the small thing, that breeds the idea of graduating to something of a more sinister nature.
This thinking has doomed us all to living in a society characterised by failing morals and the acceptance of substandard values and attitudes.
Thank you, Mrs Gloudon, for reminding us that there are still Jamaicans who are holding their heads high.
