Swallowfield halt Blazers in Div I basketball
SWALLOWFIELD got off an exciting 66-62 victory to end the winning streak of Portmore Blazers in the INSPORTS/SDC/SDF Southern Basketball Conference Division One competition at the Stadium Courts last Sunday.
The result moved Swallowfield into a four-way tie on points with MegaMart, Blazers and North Street Heats, with all four having 13 points each in Zone 3.
In an absorbing game, the teams were locked at 13-13 at the end of the first period. In the second, a tussle ensued with both teams scoring 19 buckets each for a 31-31 half-time score.
Fans were treated to another interesting battle in the third quarter, but Portmore Blazers prevailed 23-21 over Swallowfield to take a slim 54-52 lead entering the final quarter.
Swallowfield out-hustled their opponents, 14-8, in the decisive period to clinch an exciting 66-62 victory.
Swallowfield’s Ashley Marshall had 26 points, while Ryan Peddler’s game-high 27 points and 10 rebounds failed to salvage a victory for Blazers.
In other results, Fire Service defeated Police, 65-59, in Zone 2; Link-Up all-Stars beat Braves Warriors 71-55; Eastern Pistons whipped Red Hills Shooters, 78-59; Norman Gardens edged Liguanea Lions, 48-46, and North Street Heats defeated Aqua B, 72-41.
The competition continues this evening with four games, starting at 6:00 pm.
