February trial date for man in Mavado case
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Gregory Lindo, the 33-year-old St James man who is charged with perverting the course of justice and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice, in the case involving dancehall artiste Mavado is to stand trial over two days February 6-7, 2012.
The date was set yesterday when Lindo appeared in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate’s Court, after it was heard the case file was now complete.
Lindo who is also known as Fox Road, also had the reporting condition of his $200,000 bail revoked, following an application on his behalf by defence attorney Morel Beckford.
The attorney said that as a road manager for several artistes, Lindo was required to travel overseas frequently and as such the once a week reporting to the Mt Salem police would prevent him from carrying out his work.
Beckford also said Lindo was not a flight risk and Senior Resident Magistrate Vivienne Harris granted the request.
The prosecution said they had seven witnesses who will be called to testify at the trial.
Lindo was held in a sting operation by members of the Anti-Corruption Branch at a Montego Bay shopping centre, after he allegedly attempted to hand over a sum of money to a man who had reported an incident of assault against the artiste to the police.
Lindo was arrested and charged arising out of a July 22 incident.
It is reported that the complainant parked his car along a section of Belmont Road in St James at about 7:00 when Mavado and members of his entourage drove up.
It has been alleged that in an effort to avoid potholes in the road, the deejay reportedly asked that the man drive his vehicle further down the road to allow them to pass.
The man refused and members of Mavado’s entourage emerged from the vehicle and allegedly attacked the man and his son with a machete. The man reportedly received injuries all over his body, while several of his son’s teeth were knocked out.
