Knights off to winning start in D-1 basketball
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Montego Bay Cricket Club Knights got off to a winning start in the Western Basketball Association’s Division One league on Saturday with a 74-65 win over Granville Wolfpack at the Montego Bay Cricket Club.
Two games were down to be played, but the other between Montego Bay Lions and Montego Bay Boys Club Warriors was postponed.
Lemar Mitchell scored a game-high 26 points to lead Knights to their win as Andre Uter led Granville’s comeback late in the game, scoring 23 points.
The teams were tied at 15-15 after the first quarter, but Knights took over in the second half to lead 35-28 and extended their lead to 12 points (56-44) at the end of the third quarter.
Granville rallied briefly in the fourth quarter to cut into the lead, but the Knights defence proved too much.
Jamoi Richards also scored 10 points for Knights, while Dwayne Keane scored 13 points for Wolfpack.
Seven teams from four western parishes are taking part in the competition that will see the winners joining Sav Hawks as the promoted teams to the National Basketball League when it starts in December.
