McClaren quits Forest after woeful start to season
NOTTINGHAM, England (AP) — Steve McClaren has resigned from Nottingham Forest after just 10 matches in charge, ending his brief return to management in England.
The former England coach quit shortly after yesterday’s 3-1 home loss to Birmingham left the secondtier team two points off the bottom of the standings.
It is almost four years since McClaren was fired as England coach after his side failed to qualify for the 2008 European Championship.
McClaren joined Forest on a threeyear contract in the offseason after rehabilitating his managerial reputation on the continent with FC Twente.
Twente won the Dutch league at the end of McClaren’s second season in May 2010 before he was lured by Wolfsburg where he was fired six months into the campaign.
Earlier Forest fans called for McClaren to quit after he came under pressure following the side’s woeful start to the season.
