Calabar, KC remain perfect

Manniing Cup

Group A

Calabar and Excelsior continue to exert their dominance in the group by recording similar 5-0 wins over Holy Trinity and Greater Portmore High respectively.

Captain Wilburn Williams scored a hat-trick for Calabar with Kyle Scott providing the other two goals while Brian Richards scored a double in Excelsior’s win.

Thus far Calabar’s defence was been superb, conceding just once. The two teams are pretty much sure to qualify with their nearest rivals being some eight points behind.

Group B

With their brilliant start to the season; anything short of three points seems to be a stutter for Hydel High, but a competitive Waterford High held them to a 0-0 draw. Both teams remain unbeaten in the group with Hydel boasting 13 points to Waterford’s 11.

Denham Town High capitalised on the draw to gain ground on the leaders with a 2-1 win over the struggling Tivoli High.

In the clash of the cell-dwellers; Papine and Campion College could only play to a 2-2 draw. Hydel and Denham Town are level on 10 points with Waterford occupying third with eight.

Group C

Ascot proved that their hard-fought draw with Wolmer’s Boys was no fluke as they crushed them 3-0 in the group’s latest round of games.

Both teams were battling for second place in the group and a chance to advance to the next round with group leaders Charlie Smith High. They recorded a comfortable 4-0 win over Vauxhall to maintain a relaxing lead in the group. Dunoon also remained in the race as they clipped Haile Selassie 1-0.

Group D

Jamaica College exacted sweet revenge on their group rivals Camperdown to avenge their season-opening loss with a 2-0 victory. By handing C’down their first loss of the season JC has surged ahead with 12 points while C’down occupy second place with 10.

St Jago hit another obstacle in their quest to advance as they were held to a 0-0 draw by Kingston Technical last Saturday, failing to build on their 7-0 win over Cumberland. Kevin Simpson scored a four-timer for Pembroke Hall as they cruised past Cumberland 6-1.

Group E

A brace from Romario Jones and a 71st minute strike from Oshane Boothe helped St George’s to a come-from-behind 3-1 win over the defiant Spanish Town High. Own Walters opened the scoring in the first half with a well-taken long-ranged effort but in the end he could not prevent his team from losing vital points in their quest to advance.

A defeat to St George’s did not dampen the spirits of Tarrant High as they asserted themselves in second place with a 3-1 victory over Edith Dalton James while Innswood continued their goal-scoring form with a 5-0 hammering of Meadowbrook. Dujon Williams and Kavoy Morgan both scored a brace for the winners.

Group F

Kingston College continued on their immaculate start to the season by clipping Penwood 2-1. The win means that KC are yet to drop a point, winning all five games thus far.

Ardenne High continues to eke out points in the group as they edged former champions Norman Manley 1-0. The loss means that ‘Manley’ will have to capitalise on their remaining games to ensure that they advance to the next round.

Group G

A 5-0 win over St Andrew Technical helped Jose Marti to 10 points in the group, level with Bridgeport. The Portmore-based Bridgeport recorded an easy 1-0 win over St Mary’s College on Tuesday to remain unbeaten in the group. Oberlin High claimed their first point of the competition after a 2-2 draw with St Mary’s College last Friday.
