Change the political system
Dear Editor,
With both major Jamaican political parties manifestly bankrupt and exhausted, it is time for something new. The PNP had 18 1/2 years of non-accomplishment. The JLP has not had a new idea since they surrendered Christopher “Dudus” Coke, and that was more duress than new. The national economy is in the doldrums. The country is slip-sliding to hell.
The government needs some new ideas and some new folks. But neither party has enough fresh, able folks within it. So it is time to change the political system. How about putting the Constitution on pause and then asking the governor general to select a team of about 20 individuals to run the country for five years? We could call it an emergency government. I am sure the queen would understand. If they fail, then we can go back to the old political system. If they succeed it is proof that the Constitution needs drastic overhaul. The measure sure would be desperate, but desperate times demand desperate measures.
