Lucea Flames open account in WBA
NEGRIL, Westmoreland — Lucea Flames opened their account in
the Western Basketball Association Division One League with a win on Sunday, beating March Town Spartans 45-37 in a Hanover derby played
in Negril.
Flames joined Montego Bay Cricket Club Knights as early leaders after Knights beat Granville Wolfpack in Saturday’s opening game played at the Montego Bay Cricket Club.
Sunday’s game should have been played at Watson-Taylor Park in Lucea, but heavy rains forced the organisers to make a last-minute switch to Negril instead.
The venue switch did not deter the Lucea team, however, as they led from the start, 13-8 at the end of the first quarter before March Town rallied in the second quarter to lead by one point (19-18) at half-time.
Led by Craig Dorman, who led all scorers with 16 points, Lucea took charge in the third quarter, winning 16-9 for a 34-27 lead as they went on to win.
Julian Walker with eight points and Sheldon Myrie with seven also scored for Lucea, while Garfield Johnson led March Town with 12 points and Wayne Clarke scored 10.
