Broadcasting Commission to host junior commissioners meeting
IN celebration of its 25th anniversary, the Broadcasting Commission will this Tuesday host a junior commissioners meeting at their offices in Kingston.
Eight outstanding student debaters and public speakers from prep, primary and high schools around the island are confirmed to make presentations on the Broadcasting commission’s theme for the silver Anniversary, “People: Transitioning-Digital”, with the sub theme, “The Future is Digital”.
The moderator will be Krystal Tomlinson, who placed first in the 2011 Public Speaking Competition of the World Universities Debating Championships.
The students will represent:
* Ardenne High;
* Jessie Ripol Primary;
* St Thomas Technical High;
* Cornwall College;
* Manchester High;
* St Ann’s Bay Primary;
* Four Path Primary and Junior High; and
* Jamaica College
Karlene Salmon-Johnson, assistant executive director of the Broadcasting Commission, explained that the concept is that of a mock commissioners’ meeting in which each of the eight students will make a five-minute presentation on the theme “The Future is Digital”, as if he or she were at a monthly Broadcasting Commission’s commissioners’ meeting. The moderator will act as the chairman.
According to Salmon-Johnson, each regular monthly meeting of the commissioners’ decisions are taken regarding issues that affect the broadcasting industry. So, she said, the Broadcasting Commission is looking forward to getting the perspective on some common issues from the young participants.
