Red Bull Speedsters showdown at Devon House
PARISH winners of the Red Bull Speed Trap, a breakthrough sensor technology measuring the top speed of runners on a 15-metre track, will engage in a final showdown at 3:00 pm today at Devon House in Kingston.
The 48 runners, 14 men and 14 women, will get another opportunity to go even faster, with the two winners earning an all-expense paid trip to the final of the F1 Championship in Sao Paulo, Brazil next month.
The innovative sprint event, for the average person eager to find out how fast they can run, visited not only the 14 parishes but five top tertiary institutions this semester.
Red Bull Speed Trap consultant Ventley Brown noted that “it was definitely the ultimate speed test for many parishes as residents eagerly participated, determined to show their true patriotic pride of being some of the fastest people on earth, given the reigning success of Jamaicans securing world record titles in consecutive IAAF World Championships”.
Ironically, the parish of Trelawny, home of Usain ‘Lightning’ Bolt, and St Catherine, site of the leading athletic coaching institution of GC Foster College, produced the top speedsters of Dwight Whyte (43.10 kmh) and Chrystal Williams (38.00 kmh), respectively.
“This Sunday will be the master of ceremonies to determine who will be the Red Bull Speed Trap’s fastest man and woman, with all parish and collegiate winners competing against each other to be the bread-winner of an awesome trip to Sao Paulo, Brazil.
“Come and show your support to the finalists as they sprint to reveal their budding athletic flair,” said Brown.
