Johnson secures a draw for Toronto FC
CHESTER, Pennsylvania (CMC) — Ryan Johnson collected his third goal for the season to earn Toronto FC a 1-1 draw with the Philadelphia Union on Saturday in Major League Soccer.
The Jamaican attacker struck a second-half item in front of a record crowd of 19,178 at PPL Park that saw the Union clinch a play-off spot.
Johnson finished off a cross from Nick Soolsma with a quick first touch that scooted by Union goalkeeper Faryd Mondragón.
The 26-year-old Johnson helped Toronto earn their 14th draw in a disappointing season that has been marred with 13 losses against six wins.
The Union had taken the lead in the 42nd minute, when a sloppy Toronto clearance gave the ball to Philly midfielder Justin Mapp in the offensive third, with numbers.
Mapp then fed an open Sébastien Le Toux, who turned, took a dribble to his right and buried a shot into the bottom left corner of the net, past a diving Milos Kocic.
It was the 10th goal in the last 11 games for Le Toux, who leads Philly with 11 goals.
The Union are now tied with Sporting Kansas City atop the Eastern Conference on 48 points with one game to play in the regular season.
