Hockey AGM set for 6:30 pm today
An annual general meeting of the Jamaica Hockey Federation will get under way today at 6:30 pm at the Mona Hockey facility with Leon Mitchell set to be confirmed as president.
Mitchell, who is a member of club Kingston Commissioners, will replace Victor Tomlinson, who resigned suddenly as president last month after five years at the helm.
Carol Hibbert, who is unopposed as one of two directors, will vie with Nicole Grant for vice-president in charge of women’s hockey.
Richard Wisdom is unopposed as vice-president for men’s hockey.
Richard Shaw is the other unopposed director.
Nickeisha Beckford will serve as honorary treasurer and Denise Wisdom as honorary secretary.
Mitchell will head the hockey federation for the next two years in a sport where there is not much unity of thought between the men’s and women’s game.
In fact, it is well known that the ladies believe that the men’s game is bringing down the sport and Mitchell, as an elder statesman, is seen as the right person to take on the role at this time.
