Alliance Buccaneers Golf presents $1.2M to charity
THE organisers of the Alliance Buccaneer Memorial Golf Tournament held its awards function on Monday at the Constant Spring Golf Club in Kingston.
They presented a mammoth sponsorship cheque of J$1.2 million to Sister Benedict of the Laws Street Trade Training Centre. This represents twice the amount the organisers donated last year.
Sister Benedict was very appreciative of the sponsorship and the massive increase over last year. She said it would be put to very good use at the centre on behalf of the many needy persons who they cater to on an ongoing basis.
Another major presentation was the Vittoria Marley Trophy presented to Under-15 male golfer Oshane Haye. He had two good days of golf and showed a lot of talent.
He came to the tournament from the Sandals Runaway Golf School in St Ann and notched scores of four-over-par 76 and 86 for a cumulative score of 162 to end the tournament five strokes ahead of the Zondra Roye, who finished on 167.
The overall male winner was Lindy Bartley whose combined score of 146 bested Paul Thompson’s 149 and Mark Newnham’s 151. “Right now I feel really overwhelmed, I feel really good. It has been a long time since I have won a tournament and I feel really good,” said Bartley.
Jodi Munn Barrow scored 148 to cop the Ladies category ahead of Maggie Lyn (152) and Michelle Gabay (164).
Munn-Barrow was elated with her win but even happier to present the Vittoria Marley Trophy to junior golfer Oshane Haye.
“It’s an honour that they have named that trophy in Isabell’s memory. It’s very difficult still. It’s still very fresh… but just knowing that there are other juniors out there playing, and playing for her, it means a lot to our family and we thank the Buccaneers for including Isabell as a part of their family as well and I hope that her life and her legacy can help to inspire other juniors as well,” she said.
Meanwhile, the Men’s Senior category trophy went to Robert Chin with 152 ahead of Rory Jardine (153) and Wayne Chai Chong (154).
The Men’s Super Senior award went to Denis Atkinson (158), followed by Fred Sutherland (161) and Tony Gooden and Ian Garbott, who tied for third place with 184.
