Clarendon KO to kickoff with double header

BUCKNOR, Clarendon — The 2011 staging of the Claro/Clarendon Football Association Knockout competition is set to get underway today with a double-header at the Bucknor Football Field in Central Clarendon.

In the first game at 1:00 pm, Division One outfit New Roadsville will do battle with Major League contenders Rock River, with Bucknor United hosting Coffalls in the feature game two hours later.

Twenty-four teams — drawn from Division One, Major League, Super League and the Premier League, will participate in this year’s competition — with the winner set to walk away with a $75,000 cash prize.

Humble Lion are the defending champions and, along with fellow premiership team Sporting Central Academy, will enter the competition at the quarter-final stage.

The other seeded teams, Monymusk and Spartan Athletic, who will be contesting the South Central Confederation Super League, will take their bow in the previous round.

Like last season, the first round of the competition will be played over two legs, with the winner on aggregate advancing to the second stage.
