Constant Spring blank Telecom Strikers 3-0 to cop Masters title
CONSTANT Spring easily repelled the challenge of Telecom Strikers 3-0 to capture the 2011 JNBS Masters League title on Sunday at Constant Spring Oval.
The championship final, although very entertaining, was a mismatch, as Telecom Strikers had no answer to the solid technique and power displayed by the talented Constant Spring squad.
Former Jamaican international O’Neil ‘Chippy’ McDonald, the leading candidate for ‘Rookie of the Year’, registered a first-half brace as he scored in the 11th and 27th minutes, while another former national representative Lincoln Taffe scored in the 71st minute to complete the scoring.
This was Constant Spring’s third JNBS/KSAMLA Masters title this season, after winning the opening day Champions Cup and the Peter Cargill Cup.
Constant Spring will attempt to win a fourth title on Sunday at Winchester Park when they tackle Santos in the final of the inaugural JNBS Masters FA Cup knockout competition.
In the Over-45 Harry Faulkner Cup curtain-raiser, the KSAMLA Grand Masters were held to an exciting 1-1 draw by the Golden League All Stars. Lawrence Passley scored for the Grand Masters in the 45th minute, with Richard Beckford registering the equaliser for the Golden League in the 52nd minute.
The Grand Masters won the first leg of the Faulkner Cup 2-0, and with last Sunday’s 1-1 draw, the KSAMLA Grand Masters only need a draw in Sunday’s game to gain the first lien on the Harry Faulkner Cup.
