Mayberry is new sponsor of high school team tennis
MAYBERRY Investments Limited will be the main sponsor of this year’s 2011 National High School Team Tennis Championships set for there days, November 17-19 at the Eric Bell Tennis Centre, beginning at 9:00 am each day.
There are also two other sponsors, Access Financial Services Limited and Honey Bun Limited, who have come on board to assist in the staging of the championships.
According to David Sanquinetti, who is the tournament director, a new sponsor was sought after Cable and Wireless, who has sponsored the competition for the past 16 years, ended its relationship this year.
Details of Mayberry Investment Limited’s sponsorship were made at a press conference earlier this week at Mayberry Investments’ office on Oxford Road.
Gary Peart, Mayberry Investment’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), has committed his company to a three-year sponsorship deal.
Wolmer’s High and Immaculate Conception are the defending Under-19 boys and girls team champions, while Hillel Academy and Immaculate Conception are the defending boys and girls Under-14 champions.
Sanguinetti said only the winners and runners-up from last season were automatic entries to the national finals main draw, while the other schools across the island had to go through qualifying matches before gaining a place in the main draw.
Teams competing in the Boys Under-19 are: defending champions Wolmer’s, Campion College, Jamaica College, Hillel Academy, Munro College and Ocho Rios High. Girls Under-19 – defending champions Immaculate Conception, Campion College, Hampton High, MoBay High and Hillel.
Boys 14s – defending champions Hillel, Wolmer’s, Campion College, Kingston College, Ardenne High and Jamaica College, and Girls 14s – Immaculate Conception, Hillel, St Andrew High and Mount Alvernia.
Play in the boys and girls Under-19 team tennis matches will be four singles and three doubles matches, while in the boys and girls 14s there will be three singles and two doubles matches. The first to reach six games will be the winner of that match, while if a match is level at 6-6, a seven-point tie-breaker will be used to determined the winner of that match.
A team squad can be up to 12 players with a minimum of six players required to play open section, while four players are required for the boys and girls 14 section.
