Jordan shines again for Krka in Adriatic League
FOR the second consecutive week Jamaican seven-footer Jerome Jordan flourished for Krka of Slovenia in the Adriatic League, scoring a game-high 18 points in a loss against leaders Union Olimpija on Saturday at the Leon Stukelj Hall.
He was six from 11 in the field and six of nine at the free throw line, grabbing seven rebounds, with one assist and one steal to push his average to 12 points per game.
Union Olimpija won the match 80-78, after trailing Krka 18-17, 45-35, and 62-51 for the first three quarters.
The 25-year-old Jordan, who was on court for 22 minutes last weekend, is averaging 21:17 minutes of playing time. He scored a team-high 17 points last week against Buducnost of Montenegro, who won 84-80.
Olimpija’s Damir Markota, a 22-year-old, six-foot, 11-inch Croatian, was game MVP after coming up with 16 points (one three-pointer), seven rebounds, and one assist after playing for 40 minutes.
Krka’s Jure Balazic and Jimmy Baxter contributed 14 and 13 points, respectively, while Olimpija’s Ben Woodside and Sasu Salin chipped in 11 points apiece.
Olimpija lead the 14-team league with 14 points, one ahead of Cedevita of Croatia and two ahead of Maccabi Tel-Aviv of Israel and Cibona of Croatia.
Krka are in 11th place with eight points and will take on the second-placed Cedevita on Saturday.
Jordan was the 44th draft by the Milwaukee Bucks in 2010 before he was traded to New York Knicks on July 8 that year for cash considerations.
After playing in the Summer League he went overseas to improve his game, first for Hemofarm of Serbia last season and now Krka of Slovenia this year.
The Knicks, however, hold his rights after he was purchased for a reported US$500,000.
The Adriatic League or European National Championship (more specifically the Liga ABA) is in its 11th season with 14 teams from Serbia, Slovenia, Montenegro, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Israel participating.
