Classic Harmony Concert for Nov 20
FOR the second year, a stellar cast is set to take the stage at Classical Harmony Concert scheduled for the lawns of the Immaculate Conception High, St Andrew, on Sunday, November 20 at 5:00 p.m.
The concert — which is under the patronage of Charles Ross, Sterling Asset Management’s managing director — is an annual fund-raiser and will feature several talented musicians. These include: tenor, Andrew Lawrence; soprano, Jodi Holung; teenage violinist Kathryn Hoo; and pianist YeKengale. They will be joined by the 75-member Immaculate Conception High School Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of internationally-acclaimed Jamaican musician and tutor, Steven Woodham.
Canadian soprano, Aura Margison, will be the special guest artiste. Saxophonist, Ornicea Williams and the Biersay dancers complete the line-up of performers.
Classical Harmony raises funds for the Franciscan Ministries, a non-profit organisation of the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany at Immaculate dedicated to serving the poor in the inner cities of Kingston as well as in rural Jamaica. Since the inception of the organisation in 1994, the Sisters have worked with volunteers from Jamaica and overseas on youth development, health care, peace and justice-building and other outreach initiatives.
Their current projects include construction of 12×12 shelters, sponsorship of more than 200 children in school, and dental, as well as medical care, including surgery at the St. Joseph’s Hospital in St Andrew, provided by visiting practitioners. Their youth arm, the Caribbean Youth Summit Association (CYSA), which seeks to nurture leadership qualities among its members, operates an organic farm in Braes River, St Elizabeth; and the produce from this venture is used to feed the poor.
Tickets for Classical Harmony are available at Music Mart, South Avenue Pharmacy, Liguanea Drug and Garden Centre and The Paper Place in the Corporate Area.
