Brits on cocaine charges to know fate next week
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Two British women who were arrested November last year for allegedly trying to smuggle nearly 150 pounds of cocaine worth nearly $500,000 will know their fate when they return to the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate’s Court on Monday .
The two — Joanne Gordon and Pierrsha Kuranchie– both 37 year- old hairdressers have been in police custody since the time of their arrest nearly a year ago.
Their trial which has been held before Resident Magistrate Winsome Henry ended recently and Monday’s date was set for the verdict.
Gordon and Kuranchie were arrested on November 27 at the Sangster International Airport when a quantity of cocaine weighing 146 pounds were allegedly found in their luggage as they were being processed to travel to London.
It is understood that the cocaine was hidden in containers of shampoo and conditioners.
Gordon is said have had 71pounds of the drug, while Kuranchie is reported to have had 75 pounds.
