Male emphasis day attracts fathers to Shortwood school
AS the society continues to lose many young males to negative influences, a number of educational institutions are coming up with initiatives to make a change.
The Shortwood Practicing Primary and Junior High School, Kingston is one such institution.
The school today hosted a ‘Male Emphasis Day’ under the theme ‘Discover the Leader, Develop the achiever’
“The initiative has come out of the guidance counseling department,” principal, Erica Ewbanks said.
She said the event has this year attracted many fathers who have come out to suppourt their children and she was proud.
“What we have to be mindful of that there are many negative influences in the society and that is why we continue to call on males to stand and be strong,” said the principal.
Michael Simpson, whose son Jovell attends the school supported the cause.
“Events such as these are needed in the society as many children need the guidance and encouragement,” said Simpson.
The principal said she was happy with the turn out of men to the event.
