SAVAR, Bangladesh (CMC) — A five-wicket haul from off-spinner Anis Mohammed and unbeaten half-centuries by Stafanie Taylor and Deandra Dottin, spurred West Indies Women to an eight-wicket win over Pakistan Women in a key second round Group B match of the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier here yesterday.

It was the second victory in as many matches for the West Indies, putting them at the top of the Group on four points – the same number as Pakistan who have played three matches.

Chasing 141 to win in the full allotment of 50 overs, West Indies were 19 for two in the fourth over before gifted opener Taylor of Jamaica, who scored a century in the last game against Ireland, and the usually, attacking Barbadian Dottin added 123 in exactly 31 overs.

The 20-year-old Taylor topscored with 66 not out off 98 balls, hitting 12 boundaries while Dottin, also aged 20, was unbeaten on 60 from 97 deliveries with eight fours and one six.

After winning the toss, Pakistan were bowled out for 140 in 49.5 overs.

Middle order batsman Nain Abidi topscored with 53 which came off 91 balls and contained seven boundaries.

Abidi and captain Sana Mir, who opened and made 49 off 118 balls with three fours and one six, put on 89 for the fourth wicket before the last seven wickets crashed for 18 runs in 4.5 overs as Mohammed came into her own.

Player-of-the-Match Mohammed, a 23-year-old Trinidadian, took five for 26 off 10 overs while fast bowler Shakera Selman of Barbados picked up two for 21 off eight overs.

West Indies next oppose rock-bottom Japan, who have lost both their matches, at Fatullah on Friday.
