St Catherine Central League underway
FEDERAL United walked away with the best uniform parade ahead of Village United and Ensom City as the LIME St Catherine Central League kicked off last Saturday with an entertaining opening ceremony at the Spanish Town Prison Oval.
Ten of the 11 teams participated with Church Pen absent for various reasons. However, that didn’t damper the bright opening ceremony hosted by comedian Elva.
There were lots of giveaways during the half time interval as patrons enter various contests to win LIME prizes.
But back on the field of play, a hat-trick by Larone Russell led Spring Village to a 4-1 whipping of New Raiders in the opening match of the season.
Russell scored in the 26th, 63rd and 73rd minutes, with Asafa Samuels completing the rout in the 90th minute. Anex Buchanan netted an 81st consolation goal for New Raiders.
In the second encounter, Federal United and Village Lynx battled to a 1-1 draw. Jason Flemming gave Village a 69th minute lead before Ralston Chamberlain earned a share of the points in the 80th minute.
Meanwhile, in the LIME St Catherine Major League, McCooks Pen registered the biggest win thrashing Christian Pen 3-0 for their first win of the season.
Duvaughn Lee opened the scoring in the 58th minute before Santana Findlayson doubled the advantage on the hour mark. Olainzo Brown sealed the win in style with a 90th minute strike.
McCooks Pen climbed to seventh on six points from five games and are three points adrift of the leader Frasziers Whip on nine points but from four matches. Christian Pen remained at the bottom of the 11-team league on one point.
DB Basovak remained in second spot on eight points after battling to a 1-1 draw with fifth-placed Dunbeholden also on eight points.
Gary Gayle scored for Dunbeholden in the 39th minute before Zavian McCaw earned a share of the points for DB Basovak, a minute from normal time.
