A Jamaica Farewell For Ochi
Debra Ehrhardt’s international hit comedy Jamaica Farewell returns to the island, Ocho Rios to be exact, on December 10 and 11. The performances will take place at the exclusive GoldenEye Hotel & Resort in Oracabessa, St Mary on Saturday, December 10 and on Sunday, December 11 at The Sunset Jamaica Grande Resort & Spa, Ocho Rios. Based on a mostly true story about her journey from Jamaica to the United States of America (USA) in the turbulent ’70s (the Manley era), Jamaica Farewell is a hilarious and touching story of how one woman risked everything in order to fulfil her lifelong dream of starting over in America.
The stage and screen rights for Jamaica Farewell were recently optioned by Rita Wilson, co-producer of My Big Fat Greek Wedding. It was produced this past spring in Los Angeles by Wilson (Mrs Tom Hanks) and Garry Marshall and ran for six weeks — five nights a week — to sold-out houses and rave reviews. The new director is Joel Zwick, who also directed My Big Fat Greek Wedding.
