Sunshine Girls into FastNet final four
THE Sunshine Girls are into the final four of the FastNet World Netball Series at the Liverpool Arena in Liverpool following victories over Fiji, New Zealand and hosts England in their games yesterday.
In the opening encounter of the day, the Jamaicans beat New Zealand, 27-23, with quarterly scores of 5-6, 9-11, and 23-19 before going on to victory.
The Jamaicans later stopped Fiji, 31-21, after leading 11-5 at the half-way mark.
In their final match of the day, the Sunshine Girls — boasting several young players — stopped England, 21-16, with quarterly scores of 5-4, 10-8, and 15-12.
The national players had mixed results on Friday’s opening day of action. The Jamaicans, who were third at last year’s tournament, were beaten 28-18 by Australia in their opening game.
They then went on to beat South Africa, 38-29, as team captain Nadine Bryan was named Player of the Game.
In other games, New Zealand crushed South Africa, 33-14, and then beat hosts England, 33-16. England turned back Fiji, 32-15, in their tournament opener.
