Drab draw at Frome
FROME, Westmoreland — Westmoreland team Reno FC began their second-round home fixture in the Red Stripe Premier League at Frome Sports Complex on Sunday in the manner that characterised their first-round home exploits by playing to a 0-0 tie with Boys’ Town.
“It’s good to leave here with a point, but we need to be more clinical in front of goal after creating chances,” said a seemingly delighted Boys’ Town coach Andrew Price.
The teams, battling on a dry surface under heavy cloud cover until the sun broke through in the last 20 minutes, were evenly matched for most of the first half when both sides created numerous opportunities but were denied by good defensive work, fine goalkeeping and faulty shooting.
“We need to start winning at home,” Reno assistant coach Michael Graham noted. “I think it was a good game. Tactically, we played well but are not scoring.”
Twice, in the 30th and 31st minutes, Boys’ Town’s custodian Kirk Porter was forced to execute sliding kicks to intercept forward thrusts by the home team.
Then in the 40th, visiting captain Michael Campbell’s shot from the left just inside Reno’s penalty area was pushed for a corner by goalkeeper Dennis Taylor.
One minute later, it was Porter’s turn to efficiently parry a header from Reno captain Nicoly Finlayson over the crossbar after the latter had got on to an Evan Taylor 45-yard free kick.
