New Bowens lead trio into KO second round
NEW BOWENS, Clarendon — New Bowens secured their place in the second-round of the Claro/Clarendon Knockout competition after a 2-0 aggregate victory over minnows Kemps Hill on Sunday.
The relegated Super League outfit entered the decisive return leg meeting at the New Bowens Community Centre knowing that a draw would have been enough for them advance, but decided to leave nothing up to chance.
The former KO champions went on the attack from the opening whistle and were rewarded in the 10th minute courtesy of Kevon Mullings’ strike.
New Bowens now await the winner of the Longwood/Blackstars tie scheduled to be played on Thursday.
Meanwhile, promoted Major League outfit Four Paths upset last season’s fourth-place finishers York Town, 11-10 on penalties, to book a second-round date with Coffalls.
Four Paths trailed York Town 0-1 after following their first-leg defeat, but rallied for a similar victory in Saturday’s second-leg at the Four Paths Community Centre, before taking the tie in a thrilling shoot-out.
Division One hotshots Little Brazil also made it through to the second-round for the first time after holding onto their slender first-leg advantage against top Major League side Original Hazard in Sunday’s return game at Sheckles.
They will now go up against Super League contenders Spartan Athletic in their second-round meeting next Thursday.
