Waterhouse edge Highgate
BUFF BAY, Portland — Waterhouse squeezed by Highgate 1-0 in their Red Stripe Premier League game at Lynch Park on Sunday, courtesy of a Peter Keys ninth-minute penalty.
Waterhouse achieved the feat despite ending the game with 10 players after Loxley Thomas picked up a second yellow card.
Highgate tried to get back in the game through Horace James as he moved down the right flank and crossed the ball to Dennis Neish, whose resulting shot was blocked and the ball then falling to Richard Orrett but his effort could not find the mark.
Waterhouse countered through Gary McIntosh, Keyes, Thomas, and Carlos Barrett, but found Barrington James goal hard to penetrate.
There were keen battles throughout between Highgate’s Gawayne Speed and Waterhouse Carlos Barrett, both wearing the number 20 short, and the number eights, Waterhouse’s Thomas and Highgate’s Richard Orrett, who were pleasing to watch.
In summing up the team’s performance, losing coach Michael Smith said “the whole team had a bad day”.
Waterhouse coach Donovan Duckie was pleased with his side’s rendition. “We had good control in the early stages of the game and we created the opportunity for that penalty and made use of it,” he said.
