Zealous apostles
Dear Editor,
The peace of my Sunday morning was shattered recently by the sound of someone yelling her head off at my front gate. I interrupted my chores to look through the window and saw three women waving leaflets, their leader shouting “HELLO-O-O” for all she was worth.
When I opened the front door she yelled that they were from a particular church, were spreading the word of God, and wanted to have a word with me. I politely told them “No, thank you”, accompanied by appropriate hand movements from side to side. They walked off reluctantly, only to restart their cacophony at my neighbours’ gate.
While most of these itinerant apostles are not so strident, I must say that I find their weekly attempts to proselytise me quite intrusive. I often wonder whether they visit homes for abandoned children or the aged, offering practical help to these unfortunate souls.
I believe that their desire to do good would be much better spent in such efforts.
