One Third still a unit
ALPHEUS Johnson, of the trio One Third, is dispelling rumours that the group has been ‘divided’.
“We’re still a group,” Johnson told the Observer yesterday.
He, however, said he was “multi-tasking” and in the process of completing a solo album entitled Al-Ternative. The album is expected to be released in February 2012.
“This was a decision made by myself and I took my idea to the other members of the group and they are very supportive of my doings,” he said. “It is more like of a decision like the one made by the group LUST where members take on solo projects.”
The singer said singles from the album such as Lonely is the Night, Nothing But Love and I Don’t Want to Lose You are receiving some amount of airplay.
As for the other members of One Third, when asked if they were also working individually, Johnson said that he was not aware of such happenings.
“As it relates to the group, we are in the studio working on a host of singles and in the process of putting together an album which is to be released next year also,” he said.
The group has penned the lyrics to their singles Take My Breath Away, One Away, The Streets, Naturally, Dreams were Meant to Be and Feel Nice.
Formed in 2005, the trio gained national attention after being crowned the 2006 winners of the Digicel sponsored Rising Stars talent competition. One Third is the first and only group to date who has won that competition.
Since then they have since appeared on shows both locally and internationally. These include Teensplash; Stars R Us; Port Royal Music Festival; Irie Jamboree in New York; Jamaica Jerk Festival in Miami; Cayman Island Independence Concert. The group also shared the stage with Manhattans, Stylistics, Chi-lites, Blue Magic, Brian McKnight, Regina Bell, Freddy Jackson, Damian ‘Junior Gong’ Marley, Shaggy and Maxi Priest.
