Arnett end Tivoli’s unbeaten streak
IT has been many years since Arnett Gardens occupied a top-four position, but they achieved this after handing rivals Tivoli Gardens their first defeat in a dramatic 2-0 victory at the Edward Seaga Stadium on Wednesday.
Goals by Rohan Reid and Girvon Brown, in the seventh and 78th minutes, respectively, saw the surging Arnett leap three places into fourth on 19 points with their fifth win of the season.
The ‘Junglist’ have now climbed six places in two matches following their 3-1 win over Village United on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Tivoli Gardens dropped to third with 20 points and have been now winless in their last seven matches dating back to October 19 when they edged Portmore United, 1-0.
Tivoli finished the game with nine men following the dismissals of Devon Hodges in the 35th and Kemar Flemmings in the 53rd as the home imploded.
Losing coach Glendon “Admiral” Bailey was visibly upset with his team’s lack of discipline after finishing with a depleted aggregation.
“We get two unnecessary red cards. We can’t play against a quality team like Arnett Gardens and play them with nine men and expect to win,” said Bailey.
Despite securing maximum points, winning coach Paul “Tegat” Davis was equally disappointed.
“It’s nice to get the three points but the guys played indisciplined football,” he added: “When you get a team down with nine men, you play ball possession and kill off the game. Just play it around and the other goals will come,” he said.
It was sweet revenge for Arnett Gardens, who lost 1-2 to Tivoli Gardens on September 18 when they finished the game with 10 men.
